It took me forever to finish this swap.  I really hate to leave a commitment unfinished.  But if you are like me, you have some projects left undone around the house.  Well, this was for a swap-bot partner.  On Wednesday, I finally send out her pillow cover and a few extras (tea, fabric, ribbon, etc.) by way of apology.

Hi there….I kind of copied this off of an Austrailian local swap. I hope that’s okay.

You will have 2 partners and for each of them you will have to make make 2 ATC’s. That is 4 ATC’s total.

The theme is on anything you would like to create. No need to check your partners profile as it will be something you want to make! It is open to interpretation and for you to create in your own special way.

However, please do not just slap a few stickers on and call it an ATC. Put some effort into it! Embellish. Add something extra for a heart. Make something that you yourself would love to receive.

This is an regional swap. Please have a rating of 4.5 or above. No no-sends, and no flakers.

Get those creative juices flowing, and creating! :D

How to Add Fringe to a Scarf Video (From Expert Village)

It’s winter, and what better way to accessorize than with a scarf?

I googled crochet stitches and came up with a spelled out version of how to make a shell stitch on About.com.  Sorry that I don’t have the link for you here, I found it on a different computer.

scarf-006

So, this is my first attempt and making a complete project using something other than single crochet or double crochet.  The color is teal, and I used Red Heart Soft Yarn.  I love the softer yarns.  I used a size J hook.  I bought two packs of yearn and I think that I will be using most if not all of it including the fringe.Scarf

This will also be my first time adding fringe to a scarf.  I found a nice video on how to do it from expertvillage.com, and I’ll share that with you now.  Enjoy!

Dotee Doll Questions and Answers

swapbot-011Recently, Cindy asked me some questions about dotee dolls.  I thought I’d post the questions and answers (to the best of my knowledge) here.

Q: Is the face of a dotee always felt or can it be other fabric, clay or hand drawn?

A: It can be any kind of face.  The traditional face is felt with embroidery, stitched in place.  I’ve also used clay and hand drawn faces.

Q: Are they always square?
A: The are any “generic” shape, like a rectangle or oval…no arms or legs.
Q: How big are they?
A:  3-7 inches is the standard, but some are as small as 2 inches or as large as you want them to be.

Q: Can I do alot of embellishment on them like ribbon embroidery or buttons with jewels?
A: Most people like a lot of embellishments.
Q: Can the body be shapes?
A: Yes, sometimes people make mermaid dotee dolls.
Q: Is it always one tail or beads or can it be more. How long is that tail?
A: Any number of tails is acceptable.  Many people use one to three tails just for fun.  You also need a hanger, like a loop of ribbon or beads to hang the dotee doll on a tree or a wall.
Thanks for asking.  Dot is the one who started the dotee dolls.  I have links to her page from my website.

Wisteria Wedding Quilt — Time to Piece

Filed under: Wisteria Wedding Quilt, Work in Progress, sewing — smilesandsunshine @ 9:00 am

It is finally time to piece the Wisteria Wedding Quilt.  I’ve laid out some squares on a clean sheet on my bed.  It’s starting to come together, but I need to look at my sample I made earlier this year to really clarify what I am doing.  How many squares in each stripe?  How wide should the stripes be?  What was the color order I decided upon?  Here it is…Hmmm.  This is pretty, but in order to make only one yellow/gold stripe, it would have to be…8.3 inches…

Let’s think this through.  I need to look back at a previous post…

Ok.  The queen sized batting is 90″x108″.  Since my finished blocks are supposed to be 3 inches square, I will need 30 blocks across and 36 blocks down.  That will be a total of 1080 blocks.  I’m sure I have that many since my original goal was to have 1200 blocks.  I’m sure I can always make the quilt bigger or make pillows with the extra blocks, but let’s use this as a starting point.

If I use the picture on the left as a guide, and I don’t include the half rows on the top or the right of the picture, each square in the picture would represent a nine patch.  That is, instead of there being 12 squares going up, there would be 36.  I’m thinking of seperating the colors further, and having more “stripes”.  Each color value will have a diaganal stripe three squares high.  I will continue to repeat the pattern until I  reach the goal of 36 squares high.  That will mean 12 different 3 square high stripes, but they will blend into eachother a bit as there are three shades of green, two shades of brown, three shades of purple, etc.

I think I need to go piece some more before I start stitching.
