Learn how to make a Secret Storage Book or book safe.
Here’s another great video and idea from MAKE. I love their videos. They are simple, creative, and easy to follow.
If you prefer a DIY webpage, Craftbits, does a pretty good job here.
Would I cut up a book to make this? Well, that’s a really tough question. I love books, and it’s hard for me to think of damaging them. However, I’ve learned from Bookmooch that some books have been printed so many times, that there are hundreds, if not thousands, of certain titles that will never be read again. So, it is better to repurpose a book than to have it clutter up another landfill.
For myself, I have a fake book as my book safe. I’d be worried about telling you that, but I have so many books, I doubt you’d find it unless you were really looking hard. Plus, I don’t keep anything of value in it.
Recently, I was a winner of a blog giveaway. I won a fat quarter from Fabric Mom. She had some nice fabric postcards on her site, and so I thought I’d explore this idea of fabric postcards.
I live away from many of my friends and much of my family, and I like sending tangible reminders of our relationship time an again. First, I needed to know how to make them.
Here’s a tutorial I found from about.com. I generally don’t like their tutorials because they are full of advertisements, but you can always cut and paste the text if you can’t stand the ads (like me).
I like this one by ati. I have really been into crazy quilting stitches this last year, and this is a nice example:

If I ever have time, maybe I’ll get to making some cool fabric postcards like these!
This is an e-swap designed to delete at least 100 pieces of clutter from your life.
You will have 1 partner.
Before you start, take a picture of the area you plan to clean up or organize.
Then, give away or throw away 10 things a day. Do this for 10 days. Good places to give things away are: Goodwill, Salvation Army, Humane Society Thrift Store, Craigslist, and Freecycle.
Keep a record of the things you get rid of. Tell your partner what you did with the “stuff.”
When 10 days are up. Take another picture.
Send your partner 1 email a day or an email at the beginning and a long one at the end. Attach your pictures to the email or send them a link to your blog or flickr photos.
This is a cute video I found of a 5 year old making a book. It is done in old school silent movie style. This technique could be a special touch when creating your zine or handmade greeting card.
I’m surrounded by little kids at work everyday now. They are super cute. Watch out for more edu-crafts popping up on my blog in the future.
