Well, I usually blog about crafts, but I couldn’t pass up. There is a contest out there to earn 4 free bookmooch points. That is FOUR books or 2 if you mooch from another country. If you don’t know about Bookmooch, you should check it out. It is my favorite website of all time. Or one of my favorites, anyway.
Here’s the blog with the contest. Follow the directions to enter the contest:
Today, after church, the pianist and her husband took me out to lunch at Denny’s. It was so nice, just to be invited. I was careful of my diet and ordered a vegetarian omelet and a Diet Cherry Coke. I had a nice time visiting with the couple and the husband’s 80 something, young at heart parents.
This is the first time in a long time that I’ve had a meal with church friends. I really appreciated the gesture. I just wanted to share that with you. Maybe you can make someone’s day special today or tomorrow.
This swap is for all primary (K-2) teachers – current, retired, or doing their student teaching.Let’s get ready for school! There are three parts to this swap. Send all three parts to both of your swap partners.
Send a letter of introduction. Tell how long you’ve been teaching and where. If everything goes well, you may end up being penpals or mentors for eachother. (Cost=Free)
One new or used teacher book (like a book of patterns or worksheets or activities). (Cost=Free to $15)
Send a gift. This can be school supplies, a small care package (like chocolate, asprin, and mints), or a profile surprise. (Cost=hand made or approx. $5)
If you are needing a certain kind of thing (like I am in need of 2nd grade math worksheets), then you can list that below or in your profile. But that doesn’t mean your partner -has- to send you that.
Ok? Any questions? Just send me a message and type the question below as well so everyone can see that it has been asked. Thanks!
Your rating should be at least 4.5 to participate.
I recently completed a swap craft that was fun to do. It was a ransom letter to a swap partner. I puzzled a while over which beloved possession I should “kidnap”. I decided on the lizard. Then I wondered what I should ask for in return…. Cookies! I doubt I’ll get any because I never actually had the lizard in my possession. Oh well!
I am considering expanding the topics I blog about here to include music and possibly some of my other interests. I don’t really want to make it a blog about my family or personal life because, well, because those things are personal. But, I find myself wanting to update my blog on weeks that I haven’t really done any crafting.
Like this week, I am teaching at music camp. There are some really amazing young players and singers out there that I could write about.
And I could blog about places I travel to. For example, I recently took a trip to Yellowstone National Park. That was breath taking.
Could I get some feedback on this? Do you enjoy my blog as it is, or would you like to read more about other things I like?
has been my friend for about a year. In that amount of time, I have even considered upgrading to a paid account. Unfortunately, I didn’t read the fine print that said

So, I was deleted. I listed some of my Etsy items FOR SALE or SOLD. I’m sure someone reported me. Oh well. It was time to update my blog anyway.
You see, I use flickr to blog. It is really easy to link your blog to flickr and say “blog about this picture.” Then flickr actually stores the photo for you, and your blog just accesses it. Now several of my blog entries are not only picture-less, but also have this big ungly white box with a message from flikr in the middle of it. I’ve been deleted. But no worries…I’m baaack!
If you were my friend on flickr before, my old name was smilesandsunshine. My new name is Smiles and Sunshine. The spaces are pretty, aren’t they?
Ok…back to the task at hand. By the way, Flickr Uploader is a great free download if you need to upload several pictures at once…which is what I’ll be doing all day today.
I noticed these photo albums in several stores in and near Yellowstone National Park this summer. I’d really like an album like these ones. Inside, the pages were made of thick textured paper, folded on the edge. It was probably an accordion style of book binding. Then little photo corners were simple strands of thread sewn into the paper so you could slip your photos into the slots. That would be nice, or a traditional scrapbook would be nice as well.
I wonder how difficult it would be to make something like this? At the Lewis and Clark State Park in Montana I spent several moments staring down at the twigs on the ground wondering how they could fit together to make the cover. I didn’t remove any twigs (it’s against the rules). Although I’m sure some of those tiny ants hijacked a ride to Oregon in our luggage.
Here’s a challenge: If someone could make me a book in a similar style in which to display my Yellowstone Road Trip memories, I would reward them. I would make them 5 quilt blocks, or a set of pillowcases embroidered with red roses, or 5 pieces of jewelry. Are you up for the challenge?
Just an update…my flickr account is not working, so the pictures on my blog have mostly disappeared. I apologize for the inconvenience and have contacted flickr to see what can be done to fix the situation.
So, these reusable shopping bags are all the rage. There is even a swap-bot swap to make them.
Here’s a threadbangers video all about these bags. It has really good directions on how to make your own bag. I also like the music in the background and the hosts.
Comment below if you make one. Make sure to leave a link to the blog post or flkr pic of your bag!
